Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 28, 2026
Muromuro (hereafter “the Service”) is a non-profit information and community service. Drawing on Korean public data and guidance published by Korean diplomatic missions abroad, it maps hospitals and pharmacies in several countries and lets people share health experiences even when they do not share a language. The Service collects your personal information only to the minimum extent truly necessary and never uses it for sales, advertising, or marketing, and never sells it to a third party.
Posts and comments are translated automatically so that people using other languages can read them, and the translated text is stored on the server as well — so the same text is not translated again every time someone reads it. Translation runs on servers the Service operates itself; your text is not sent to any outside translation provider or other company. If you delete the original, the stored translations are deleted with it. If you write personal details such as a name or phone number in a post, those are translated into several languages and stored too. It is safer not to include them.
1. Personal information we collect
| Type | What we collect |
|---|---|
| Sign-up (required) | ID, password (stored with one-way encryption), nickname, email address |
| While you use the Service Collected automatically |
IP address, country, pages visited and referral path, browser information (User-Agent), access time, cookies (login session and security) |
| Writing posts and comments | The content you write, and the writer's IP address (part of it may be shown on the post to prevent spam and abuse) |
| Information requests and questions (guests included) |
Inquiry type and content, IP address, and the contact details you enter yourself, only when you want a reply(email, phone, etc.) |
The Service does not collect unique identifiers such as resident registration numbers, or sensitive information such as health or beliefs. Only when you apply for expert verification, information about your professional field may also be collected.
2. Purpose of using personal information
- Identifying members and logging in, and providing community features (posts and comments)
- Service security and stable operation, such as blocking misuse, spam, and malicious access (IP address, etc.)
- Checking and answering inquiries and information requests
- Analyzing service usage statistics and improving quality
- Showing posts and comments in other languages (automatic translation)
3. How long we keep your information
- Account information: Kept until you delete your account, and destroyed without delay when you do. (If the law requires us to keep it, we keep it for that period.)
- Access and visit records (logs): As a rule, destroyed within 90 days of the day they are collected.
- Posts and comments: Destroyed when you delete your account or ask us to delete them. (Because this is a community, posts already published may stay up until you ask for deletion.)
- Stored translations: Deleted together with the original. If the original is edited, the old translation is discarded and the text is translated again.
- Inquiry content and contact details: Kept for up to one year after the inquiry is handled and then destroyed; contact details are destroyed once the reply has been sent.
4. Providing personal information to third parties
As a rule, the Service does not provide your personal information to anyone outside the Service. The only exceptions are when the law requires it or when an investigative agency requests it through a lawful procedure.
5. Outsourcing and overseas transfer
For reliable delivery of web traffic and for security (content delivery and blocking abnormal traffic), the Service uses the CDN and security services of Cloudflare, Inc. (USA). In this process, some information such as your IP address may be handled by or pass through that service.
6. Use of cookies
The Service uses the minimum number of cookies needed to keep you logged in and to stay secure (CSRF protection). You can refuse cookies in your browser settings, but then some features such as login may not work. The Service does not use cookies for advertising tracking.
7. Your rights and how to use them
At any time you may ask us to view, correct, delete, or stop processing your personal information, or delete your account. After you log in, you can edit your details or delete your account yourself under ‘My Info’, or send a request through the contact page below, and the Service will take the necessary steps without delay.
8. Destruction of personal information
Personal information is destroyed without delay once the retention period has passed or the purpose of processing has been met. Information kept as electronic files is deleted in a way that makes it impossible to recover or restore.
9. Children under 14
The Service is meant for people aged 14 and over, and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14.
10. Privacy officer and contact
Inquiries and requests: site contact page. Please send them through this page.
If you need advice about a privacy violation, you can contact the Korea Privacy Protection Report Center (privacy.kisa.or.kr, call 118 without an area code) or a similar body.
11. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be revised when the law or the Service changes. When it does, we update the effective date and post the new version on this page.
12. Processing in the mobile app (Android)
The Muromuro mobile app uses the same server as the website. In the app, the following information is additionally processed.
- Location (optional): When you use 'Near me' search, your device's GPS coordinates are sent to the server to find nearby hospitals and pharmacies. Coordinates are used only momentarily to compute results and are not stored. If you deny location permission, all other features such as region selection and search remain available.
- Device identifier: To let you post without an account, the app uses a random identifier created at install time. It is used only for managing posts and comments (deleting your own posts, preventing spam/abuse) and is not linked to any information that could identify you personally.
- Stored on your device: Your nickname, posting password, language setting and hidden-post list are stored only on your device. The nickname and posting password are sent to the server only when you submit a post.
- On-device translation: Translation is processed on your device with Google ML Kit; translated content is not sent anywhere. A translation model file is downloaded once on first use.
- Comment notifications: For comment notifications, a notification token issued by Google FCM may be stored on the server together with the device identifier. The token is used only to send notifications and becomes invalid when you disable notifications or uninstall the app.
The app shows no ads and does not collect the advertising identifier.
