My back hurts
Recommended department — Orthopedics
When to go straight to the emergency room
- Weakness or numbness in your legs
- Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Severe pain after a fall or accident
- Back pain together with a fever
If you have any of the symptoms above, call 119 or go to the nearest emergency room.
What should I do?
Back pain is usually seen by orthopedics or neurosurgery. If it is a muscle problem, orthopedics or rehabilitation medicine; if the pain also runs down your leg (a possible disc problem), look for a spine specialist in neurosurgery or orthopedics.
Most simple back pain improves within two to four weeks. An X-ray or MRI is not always necessary, so start with an examination at a neighborhood clinic.
