My ear, nose or throat hurts

Recommended department — Ear, nose and throat

When to go straight to the emergency room

  • Sudden hearing loss in one ear (early treatment matters)
  • A throat so swollen that breathing is difficult
  • A nosebleed that does not stop after 20 minutes
If you have any of the symptoms above, call 119 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What should I do?

Ear pain, a blocked nose, a sore throat and dizziness are seen by ENT. Many people also go to an ENT clinic rather than internal medicine for cold symptoms. If you suddenly cannot hear in one ear (sudden hearing loss), the sooner it is treated the better the recovery — do not put it off.
