Cancer

Information for cancer patients and their families

How to use this board

Cancer differs greatly in treatment and course from type to type. If you talk in the room for your own type of cancer — stomach, colorectal, lung and so on — you can meet people going through the same illness. In each cancer room, 'View information' at the top brings together information on stage, treatment and costs.

Good things to know right after a cancer diagnosis

  • Registering for the special cost-sharing program for serious illness (산정특례): when cancer is confirmed, registering at the hospital brings your out-of-pocket cost down to 5% for 5 years
  • You can get standard information by cancer type, and advice, from the National Cancer Information Center (1577-8899)
  • Write down what you want to know before treatment starts and take it with you. Getting a second opinion at another hospital is also a patient's right
  • The most dangerous thing is letting folk remedies delay standard treatment
