Kidneys and Urinary Health

Kidney disease, urinary stones and prostate health

What this board is about

This board covers chronic kidney disease, urinary stones, cystitis (a bladder infection), prostate conditions, and blood or protein in the urine. Chronic kidney disease has its own sub-room. Kidney function belongs to nephrology, and stones, the prostate and urination problems to urology.

When to go to a hospital quickly

  • Blood in the urine that you can see (see a doctor even if it does not hurt — bladder cancer has to be ruled out)
  • Pain in your side as if it is tearing, together with vomiting (a urinary stone is suspected)
  • When almost no urine comes out, or your body suddenly swells and you are short of breath
  • Pain when passing urine, together with fever and chills (a kidney infection is suspected)
