Respiratory Health

Colds, flu, cough, rhinitis and asthma

Topics covered on this board

This board covers respiratory conditions such as colds and flu, a cough that lasts a long time, asthma, pneumonia and chronic cough. Asthma has its own sub-board. Care is centred on pulmonology (호흡기내과) (internal medicine at clinic level, and ear, nose and throat clinics).

See a doctor quickly in these cases

  • When you are so short of breath that it is hard to keep talking, or the lips turn blue (emergency)
  • When there is blood in your phlegm
  • When a cough keeps going for more than 3 weeks (a chest X-ray check is recommended)
  • When you have a high fever together with chest pain when breathing (pneumonia is suspected)

People aged 65 and over and people with chronic conditions should have a flu vaccination every year, and eligible people should have the pneumococcal vaccination.
