What this board is about
This board covers brain and nerve conditions such as stroke, dementia, Parkinson's disease, headache and dizziness. Stroke, dementia and Parkinson's disease have their own rooms. Neurology is the main department (neurosurgery for surgical treatment).
Stroke FAST — call 119 straight away
If even one of the following appears suddenly, call 119 immediately. Time is brain.
- Face: one side of the face droops and the smile is uneven
- Arm: the arm and leg on one side go weak
- Speech: speech is slurred or the words will not come
- Time: note the time the symptoms started and call 119 right away
Even if the symptoms ease off for a while (a transient ischaemic attack), you still need to be seen the same day.
